Remember to drink responsibly, is a phrase that we have all heard, perfunctorily added at the end of a beer commercial. As those of who have taken some english comp classes have learned that extracting an adjective will strip that sentence of color, texture and its ability to quantify but the core meaning is actually left more fully exposed. What are we left with when we remove the word "responisbly"? Beer companies are also aware that their core consumer does not drink responsibly. So are they imploring with their customers to drink less of their product? Ah, no. But they are trying to placate their corporate concious. What they know is that the majority of their sales come from the alcoholic who responds to their ad in just they way the want them to. They remember to drink....
